Treatment

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythematous, thick, and scaly lesions, typically found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and trunk. It results from an accelerated renewal of epidermal cells combined with a dysregulated immune response. The condition can have a significant impact on patients' quality of life.

The causes of psoriasis involve genetic, immunological, and environmental factors. Stress, infections, skin trauma, the use of certain medications, and cold weather can trigger or worsen the disease. Traditional treatment includes topical corticosteroids, vitamin D analogs, systemic immunosuppressants, and phototherapy with different types of UVB, depending on the severity and extent of the lesions.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) with a 390 nm filter is a complementary therapeutic option in the treatment of psoriasis, especially for localized and resistant plaques. This light spectrum penetrates the skin and has an anti-inflammatory effect, promoting the selective destruction of dilated blood vessels and reducing epidermal cell proliferation.

IPL-Sq® is the safest IPL handpiece on the market. The 390 nm Dual-band filter is compatible with ZYE® platforms. The treatment is generally well tolerated, with sessions spaced according to clinical response. In this case, was 20 days between sessions. After a few applications, a reduction in erythema, scaling, and plaque thickening is observed.
