Treatment

Snoring is an abnormal respiratory sound produced by the vibration of the soft tissues of the upper airway during sleep. It may be associated with conditions such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS). Treatment for snoring control can involve everything from weight loss to the use of intraoral appliances or CPAP, and in some cases, surgery.

The 2,940 nm Erbium YAG laser treatment is a minimally invasive and effective alternative for controlling snoring. It promotes controlled heating of the soft tissues of the oropharynx. This heating induces the immediate contraction of collagen fibers and stimulates neocollagenesis, resulting in greater firmness and support of the tissues, reducing airway obstruction.

The DualMode® is a 2,940 nm Er:YAG laser handpiece compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms. It has the InLift® accessory, a spot specially developed for intraoral applications with a Smooth pulse.

This case was performed on a patient with mild to moderate sleep apnea who had previously undergone polysomnography for quantitative evaluation of the results, as well as the Mallampati index. Four sessions were performed with a total of 200 cumulative triggers, distributed equally between the sides of the palate.
