Treatment of dark circles with picosecond laser

Jenny Andrea Baquero Rey,

Dermatologist,

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Dr Jenny used the ETHEREA-MX® platform, with Handpiece handPico®.

Treatment:
  • Dark circles, or periorbital hyperpigmentation, can have different causes such as vascular changes, presence of melanin in the region, facial anatomy or can have more than one associated factor, being called mixed.

  • The treatment of dark circles varies depending on the cause, but the combination with laser or light is almost always an alternative.

  • The use of picoseconds technology is currently the most renowned for treating pigmented lesions, including dark circles and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The laser can fragment the pigment without producing heat, in the so-called photoacoustic effect, thanks to its extremely short pulse duration (picosecond, 10-15 second).”

  • The handPico®, the world's first picosecond handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, operates in pico and nanoseconds and has wavelengths at 1064nm and 532nm. It has several spot sizes, including a micro fractional lens (MLA), allowing treatment for patients with different skin types, safely and effectively.

  • In this clinical case, Dr. Jenny carried out 4 sessions with biweekly intervals. Two passes were made with the spots mentioned below.
