Treatment

Melasma is a chronic pigmentary disorder characterized by symmetrical hyperpigmented macules, mainly on the face, associated with sun exposure, hormonal factors, and genetic predisposition. It is frequently accompanied by a vascular component, enlarged pores, and changes in skin texture, which require a combined and progressive therapeutic approach.

The treatment of melasma may involve different techniques. Among them are chemical peels, adjustments in sun-exposure care, the use of topical depigmenting agents, and light- and laser-based technologies. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology allows selective action on melanin and hemoglobin, promoting the reduction of pigmentation, erythema, and an overall improvement in skin quality.

The IPL-SQ® Intense Pulsed Light handpiece is compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms. In this case, a progressive selection of fluences was performed, allowing for a phased approach to superficial pigment, deeper pigment, and the vascular component, minimizing the risk of adverse effects.

The IPL-SQ® handpiece was associated with strict photoprotection and the topical use of a formula composed of 2% hydroquinone, 0.05% trans-retinoic acid, and 0.5% hydrocortisone.
