Dr Jenny used the ETHEREA-MX® platform, with the Handpiece IPL-Sq®.
Treatment:
Melasma is a very common dermatological disease in women, especially during pregnancy. Its exact cause is not known, but some factors can trigger the condition, among them are sun exposure, hormonal changes and genetic pool. Because it does not have a definitive cure, choosing the right treatment helps to control it.
For the treatment of melasma, there are several methods described in the literature, ranging from the use of topical products, sunscreen and the association of technologies such as laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL),
The use of Intense Pulsed Light to control melasma is not a consensus, however, it is known that the choice of the correct filter, as well as the correct parameters, can help in reducing pigmentation and vessels that may be present and are often associated with melasma.
The IPL-Sq Handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, is FDA certified for melasma treatment. With a square wave pulse, wide variation in pulse time (5 – 100ms) and 540nm and 580nm filters (among others) it allows the adjustment of the treatment for patients with different skin types.
In this clinical case, Dr Jenny opted for the use of IPL-Sq®, since the patient had already undergone a previous cosmetic treatment, with recurrence of the lesion. It was associated with emollient treatment, strict photoprotection and topical use of the triple combination: Fluocinolone 0.01% + hydroquinone 4% + tretinoin 0.05%. The patient continued to be under observation for 7 months with maintenance of the result.
