 Treatment of vascular malformation

in the face with IPL-Sq®

Jenny Andrea Banquero Rey,

Dermatologist,

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Dr. Jenny Rey used the ETHEREA-MX® platform, with the IPL-Sq® handpiece.

Treatment:
  • Vascular malformations are changes in the development of blood vessels that may be related to arterial (arterial malformation), venous (venous malformation) or mixed (arteriovenous malformation) dysplasia and, when very apparent, may affect the patient's quality of life.

  • The treatment of these face lesions is difficult to manage and, often, performed with the help of LASERs or intense pulsed light (IPL) aiming at their reduction and lightening.

  • The light emitted by the IPL is attracted to hemoglobin present in this type of lesion, causing heat production (selective photothermolysis) and, consequently, closure of the most superficial vessels.

  • The IPL-Sq® handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, has a square pulse (Square-Wave Pulse®), a large pulse time variation (5-100 ms) and filters from 400 to 695 nm that allow treatment adjustment for patients with different types of vascular lesions in the face, neck and upper chest safely and effectively.

  • In this clinical case, it is noted that, although the patient has a tattoo overlapping the vascular lesion, he had a favorable response both clinically and in terms of aesthetic perception.
