Symptomatic keloid treated with IPL-Sq® and associations

Stela Cignachi, dermatologist

Caxias do Sul, RS - Brazil

This is a case report provided by the dermatologist Stela

Cignachi, from Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, using the ETHEREA-MX® platform with the IPL-Sq® handpiece.

Treatment
  • Keloids are voluminous scars with a reddish or dark color that are caused by excess collagen in the skin, which occurs due to an excessive scarring process. They are often symptomatic and can cause itching and pain. They can occur on any part of the body that has suffered trauma, such as surgery, burning, vaccination, acne or even tattooing.

  • Treatments described for keloids range from compression clothing, cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, surgical removal and treatment with LASER.

  • The light emitted by IPL-Sq® is attracted by the hemoglobin present in keloid lesions, causing a reduction in the redness of the scar.

  • The IPL-Sq® handpiece, which is also compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, has a square pulse (Square-Wave Pulse®), a wide range of pulse times (5 - 100 ms) and 540 nm and 580 nm filters (among others), which are indicated for the treatment of reddish lesions, as well as superficial vessels.

  • In the case described, the patient presented with a posttraumatic keloid lesion they had had for five years, with intense pain in the area. The patient had previously been treated with cryotherapy and intralesional corticosteroid without improvement.

Treatment associated with Triancil 4:1 + Botox 4:1 over the entire lesion, with significant improvement in the aesthetics of the lesion, inflammatory characteristics and patient symptoms.
