Treating eyelid flaccidity with Er:YAG

Luz Marina Hannah Grohs, dermatologist

Curitiba, PR - Brazil

This case report is provided by the dermatologist Luz Marina Hannah Grohs, from Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil, using the

ETHEREA-MX® platform with the DualMode® handpiece.

Treatment
  • As the aging process progresses, the appearance of wrinkles and flaccidity are common. The treatment of some wrinkles and flaccidity is more complicated, often due to their location. Treatments in the periorbital region must be precise and delicate because this area is very fine.

  • Various treatments are described for this region: lotions with retinoic acid, antioxidants and moisturizers, superficial and intermediate peeling and non-ablative and ablative fractional LASERs.

  • The use of Er:YAG ablative fractional LASER promotes the vaporization of the damaged epidermis and partial dermal ablation. Dermal remodeling results in the replacement of damaged collagen and elastin by new collagen and elastin, improving the appearance of the crow’s feet and flaccidity.

  • The DualMode® handpiece, which is compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, has a wavelength of 2940 nm (Er:YAG), allowing more aggressive (in DualMode® – CO² like) and even less aggressive treatments (single pulse). The choice of the ideal treatment mode improves the results, with the ability to change according to each patient’s needs.
