Treatment of freckles and melanosis with IPL-Sq®

Cíntia Freitas Martins, dermatologist

Atibaia, SP - Brazil

This is a case report provided by the dermatologist

Cíntia Freitas Martins, from Atibaia, São Paulo, Brazil, using the ETHEREA-MX® platform with the IPL-Sq® handpiece.

Treatment
  • Freckles are pigmentary lesions that generally occur on individuals who have light skin and are redheads, mainly in the lighter skin types. They begin to appear between two and three years of age and increase during adolescence. They are different for melanosis or lentigo senilis, which are hyperpigmentary disturbances considered to indicate damage caused by exposure to the sun and aging

  • The treatment of both lesions can vary from chemical peeling with depigmentation agents and antioxidants to LASER (Q-Switched, CO2, Er:YAG) and Intensive Pulsating Light (IPL-Sq®).

  • The light emitted by IPL-Sq® is attracted to the melanin present in pigmentary lesions, generating heat (selective photothermolysis) and their consequent removal.

  • The IPL-Sq® handpiece, which is compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, has a square pulse (Square-Wave Pulse®), large variation of pulse time (5 - 100 ms) and 540 nm and 580 nm filters (among others) that allow the treatment to be safely and effectively adjusted for patients with lighter or darker pigments.
