Treatment of Xanthelasma with ACROMA-QS®.

Dr. Geann De Bortoli,

Dermatologist

Curitiba, PR - Brazil.

Dr. Geann De Bortoli used the ETHEREA-MX® platform, with the ACROMA-QS® handpiece .

Treatment:
  • Xanthelasma, or plane xanthomas, is a benign tumor of conjunctival origin resulting from the infiltration of xanthomatous cells into the dermis and the papillary body. It is characterized by the formation of dark yellow or brownish plaques, with a velvety, smooth or slightly grainy surface and with a soft consistency, located in the inner corners of the upper and lower eyelids.

  • In most cases, the treatment for this type of lesion is based on aesthetic factors, with surgical removal and LASERs being the most widely used means. The 532 nm KTP LASER has been shown to be a good treatment option, with satisfactory results and a low rate of adverse effects, in the various published studies.

  • The ACROMA-QS® handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, is a Q-Switched LASER, with 20 ns pulses and widely versatile for having varied spots and 2 wavelengths: Nd:YAG 1064 nm and KTP 532 nm. The Nd:YAG 1064 nm is used for less aggressive treatments such as melasma, hyperchromia and dark tattoo removal, while the KTP 532 nm can be used for more aggressive treatments such as the removal of xanthelasma, flat keratosis and tattoos with lighter or warmer colors, such as red and orange.
