Treatment of melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

on the male face with picosecond laser

Lourdes Rodriguez,

Physician,

Lima, Peru.

Dr Lourdes used the ZYE® YAG platform, with

the handPICO® handpiece.

Treatment:

Despite being more common in women, melasma is a dermatological disease that can also affect men. Its presence can be determined by racial, genetic and sun exposure factors. Because it does not have a definitive cure, choosing the right treatment helps to control it.

The use of picosecond technology is currently the most highly regarded for the treatment of pigmented lesions, including melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. By working with extremely short pulses, the laser in picoseconds, when reaching the skin, causes the photoacoustic effect, fragmenting the pigments, without heat.

The handPICO®, the world's first picosecond handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, operates in pico (530ps) and nanoseconds (2,5ns) and has wavelengths at 1064nm and 532nm. It has several spots, including a microfractionated lens (MLA), allowing treatment for patients with different skin types, with safety and effectiveness.

Dr. Lourdes performed 5 sessions, with 1064nm and 530ps with an interval of 15 days. Right after the 4th session, she associated drug delivery with a mesotherapy product with glutathione, vitamin C and superoxide dismutase.
