Wound treatment with LongPulse®

André Miquelin,

vascular surgeon

São José do Rio Preto, SP - Brazil

This is a case report provided by the vascular surgeon

Dr. André Miquelin, from São José do Rio Preto,

São Paulo, Brazil, using the ETHEREA-MX® platform, with the LongPulse® handpiece.

Treatment:
  • During the use of peripheral venous access, some local complications associated with the catheter use may be observed, such as hematomas, thrombosis, phlebitis, infiltration, extravasation, and local infection.

  • The use of light to accelerate the wounds healing process is described in the literature with the use of low-power LEDs and LASERs. The use of the 1064nm micropulsed LASER allows for an action closer to photobiostimulation.

  • Case description: young patient diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome and consequent acute kidney failure. At the site of the venous access on the back of the hand, the medication infusion did not go inside the vein, it was infused into the subcutaneous region, causing edema and a large wound.

  • The treatment was done using the LongPulse® on the site, each session was performed 3 times with LASER shots lasting 20 seconds each. Immediately after a dressing was made with Age-Derm, gauzes, crepe bandages and elastic compression bandage Selecta.

  • The LongPulse® handpiece, compatible with the ETHEREA-MX® and ZYE® platforms, allows for work with long pulses (milliseconds, in LongPulse® mode) for vascular treatments, hair removal and also with short pulses (micropulsed - DYNAMICS® mode) successfully stimulating local healing.
